Wearable technology is the big buzzword today at the International Consumer Electronic Show (CES) this week in Las Vegas. We already know about technologies for folks who are health and fitness buffs and want to track everything from their steps to their level of relaxation. Predictions tell us that one day we will even be able to track our blood chemistry.

Even though many of these devices are useful, the truth is most of us don’t need a special device to tell us if something is wrong with our feet. Fortunately we have finely tuned systems that let us know when we feel pain. And we’ve been blessed with this feedback loop for millions of years.

If you’re feeling pain in your feet, you need to know that this is not normal. Of course if you’ve been a coach potato for a long time and then you decide to run 5 miles to start out the New Year, your feet are likely to hurt. But if you’ve been putting up with a lot of pain and your gut tells you something isn’t right, it isn’t.

Your feet are one of the hardest working parts of your body. Put yourself in your feet’s shoes. Imagine having to support all that weight for years and years on end. That’s why as we get older the likelihood of having foot problems increases.

One of the more common foot problems is heel pain, most often plantar fasciitis. Two of the main things we find in our Seattle Podiatry office is that patients with this condition have tight calf muscles and/or faulty foot mechanics. Health and fitness buffs including runnersare also at greater risk for this condition.

Our Seattle foot doctors have developed a comprehensive program for treating heel pain until it’s gone. If your own amazing feedback loop is giving you clear signals of foot pain, meet with one of our podiatrists today to start you on the path back to health. You can reach us at 206-368-7000 or request an appointment online.
