This is a common question we get from patients who have been referred to our office for heel pain, bunions, neuromas, flat feet, and ankle, knee, and back pain. The answer is, it depends.  Many people who come into our office have already tried over-the-counter (OTC) inserts and are still having pain.

However, if this is something you have not tried, yes absolutely try them. If OTC inserts work for you then it doesn't make sense to spend the money on custom orthotics.

However, if you have determined that OTC inserts do not work for you (you still have pain), as your podiatrist I'd recommend coming into our office so we can assess next steps to resolve your heel pain.
