Heel pain occurs most commonly when the plantar fascia, the broad band of tissue running along the bottom of your foot, becomes inflamed. The most common condition causing heel pain is plantar fasciitis. It occurs more frequently in runners and other active people, those who have a foot type such as flat feet, and those who wear shoes that do not provide proper foot support.
