Heel Fracture

A fracture of the heel (calcaneus ) often includes a history of significant trauma such as coming down hard on the heel in basketball or a heavy fall. Significant swelling and pain of the heel and/or pronounced discoloration are common.  The heel is painful when squeezed from side to side.

Xrays will rule out a fracture of the heel bone and ensure the adjacent joints are not involved. The specific type of fracture must be determined to decide if conservative of surgical intervention is indicated.

If you've had a fall and pain is pronounced throughout the heel, you should seek early medical attention. Set up an appointment with one of our Seattle podiatrists at the Foot and Ankle Center of Lake City.  Call us at 206-368-7000.
