Plantar fasciitis can go away on its own, but a lot depends on why you developed it in the first place. For example, if you were wearing a new pair of shoes that offered poor support, the pain could go away without treatment once you start wearing a better pair of shoes.

Treatment for Plantar Fasciitis

Most often plantar fasciitis needs treatment to resolve. It's a complex condition usually caused by many different factors. For example, runners are at greater risk because of the stress they place on their feet. But runners with poor foot mechanics, like flat feet, are at even greater risk. In this case, treatment would include rebalancing the foot mechanics and making sure the runner has proper footwear.

What Causes Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis is a condition that affects the plantar fascia, the connective tissue that runs along the bottom of your foot. When this tissue becomes inflamed you'll feel pain in the heel of your foot most notably with first steps out of bed in the morning. Any activity or biomechanical problem that puts a strain on the plantar fascia will cause micro-tears at the site of your heel which causes inflammation and pain.

It's important to stop the activity and reduce the strain on the plantar fascia to reduce the inflammation and begin the healing process. Learn about how we treat plantar fasciitis.
