Only wearing sandals and flip flops this summer? While flip flops are suitable for the beach and sandals are great for walks around Greenlake, if you sail, run, hike, play golf or tennis you're still going to need to wear closed-toes shoes.
And unfortunately shoes are a breeding ground for bacteria and fungus. When you participate in your favorite activity, you up the ante. Sweat and heat can make your feet and socks smell foul.
If you want to keep your feet, smelling sweet for your main squeeze you're going to have to take some action.
Take Stock of Your Socks
Socks can make a huge difference. Runners and other sport enthusiasts need to avoid cotton-only socks. Get yourself down to REI or Big 5 if you're on a budget and ask for socks that wick away moisture. Check the label and look for materials such as merlino wool and nylon or polypropylene that can get the job done.
Kill The Odor with Kindness
When you work out, not only do you push yourself but you also push your sweat glands to pump out more sweat! Fortunately there are foot sprays and powders created to control perspiration and odor and keep your feet feeling good. At the Foot and Ankle Center of Lake City, we use Gordon's No. Five foot spray. But you can also use foot powder to keep your feet dry and free from odor.
Keep Extra Shoes On Hand
Shoes and socks need time to dry out. While you can toss your smelly, stinky socks in the laundry, you'll need at least 2 pairs of shoes on hand so you can switch them out daily to keep odor under control.
Plug in Your Shoes Every Night
If you really want to knock out the bacteria and fungus that can cause athlete's foot, toenail fungus, and foot odor you can also purchase an Ultraviolet Light Shoe Sanitizer. You simply take off your shoes, put in the sanitizer, and plug it in so it can work its magic. Shoe sanitizers claim to remove 99.9% of all the bugs that make your feet smell bad.
It's no longer a mystery how to keep your feet smelling sweet. With a little forethought and some new daily habits, you can keep your main squeeze from running in the other direction.
