Nerve entrapment may accompany plantar fasciitis and a spur in the bottom of your heel. A nerve branch that courses from the inside (medial/closest to the midline of your body) of the heel beneath a muscle belly which is higher up and behind the bottom of the heel or plantar calcaneus, becomes trapped. Pain is experienced as either a shooting pain from one side of the heel across the bottom to the other or as a burning sensation. Pain may be produced when the nerve is tapped at the base of this muscle belly. Treatment involves resolving the associated mechanical disorder.
